Research Overview
We are a part of the Ultrashort Pulse High-Intensity Laser Laboratory (UPHILL), where we investigate laser-matter interactions by exciting matter with intense, femtosecond laser pulses of peak powers of 20 to 150 Terawatt. The lab also creates extremely ultra-dense, hot plasmas, which are an excellent source of bright short-lived hard x-rays and energetic particles. Through interactions of intense lasers with nanoclusters, we have been able to generate accelerated neutral atoms, with energies as large as a mega-electron-volt (MeV). Through various projects, our lab investigates nuclear fusion, astrophysical scenarios, non-equilibrium scenarios, turbulence mechanisms, and plasma instabilities.
