For members: Publicising your work

At the Science Media Centre, we aim to effectively communicate your research and achievements to a wider audience. You can use any of these methods to publicise your work, or a combination of them, based on your needs and goals. Here’s how we can assist:

1. Press ReleasesA press release is a powerful tool to share your research with the media and public. Here’s how we ensure it’s impactful.
– Inform Early: Once your paper is accepted for publication, please inform the Science Media Centre, preferably at least 3-4 weeks in advance. This allows us sufficient time to prepare a press release that is non-technical and suitable for a non-expert audience. Along with this, we shall also work towards preparing required material for uploading the press release on EurekAlert.
– Avoid Delays: Informing us late may delay the release of the press statement, missing the critical window when the embargo lifts.
– Urgent Requests: If the Science Media Centre is notified within a week or closer to the publication date, please provide a concise, non-technical summary (~500 words). This write-up will help expedite the process.

2. Social Media HighlightsSocial media helps showcase your achievements and connect with a wider audience. Here’s what we need:
– Research Highlights: For research studies, please share the key highlights of your work along with any relevant pictures or videos.
– Awards and Honours: To highlight your awards, please send us the citation text and an image. (Image specification: 500px by 500px)

3. Articles and InfographicsIn addition to press releases and social media coverage, we create articles and infographics showcasing research. Please write to Anusheela Chatterjee (anusheela at tifrh dot res dot in) with a request for articles and infographics.

4. Short Videos (‘In Focus’)We create short videos highlighting the research work of graduate students. These videos are an excellent way to showcase innovative ideas in an accessible format. Please write to Anusheela Chatterjee (anusheela at tifrh dot res dot in) with a request for videos.

Conferences and events: For coverage during institute events and conference, please inform the media centre team as soon as the conference dates are finalised. This ensures we can plan the coverage and avoid scheduling conflicts with other outreach activities such as lab tours or visits.

Lab tours for schools and colleges: If any institution(s) approach you for lab tours, kindly direct them to contact Srushti Chipde (srushtisc at tifrh dot res dot in). We handle scheduling and ensure smooth coordination for all such visits.

By helping us in the aforementioned ways, you enable us to share your work with maximum impact and efficiency. Feel free to contact us (anusheela at tifrh dot res dot in and srushtisc at tifrh dot res dot in) for further assistance.
