TIFRH Science Fair 2024

Last Sunday was quite an eventful one on campus! TIFR Hyderabad members joined efforts to put up a vibrant science fair, welcoming around 250 visitors from schools in & around Hyderabad. Scroll further to take a look at the games, interactive demos, lab-walks & more!

While a boat race ended up becoming a super fun way to learn about surface tension, it found a tough competitor in the nearby extremely popular laser harp-an instrument that used laser beams as ‘strings’ instead of traditional strings as in a usual harp (video coming soon!)

Some ‘cold-play’ with liquid nitrogen, jumping & punching the non-Newtonian cornflour-water slurry (Oobleck!), identifying matching characteristics in a group of elements, and crosswords kept our visitors engaged.

Students got a closer look at fruit flies at the microscopy station. They also looked at protein crystals, marveling at their intricate structures. The visitors also went on a tour of TIFR Hyderabad labs and got a glimpse of the facilities available and ongoing research.

The Story Box, an ATM for stories, puzzles and facts, was installed at the Science Fair. A shout-out to the DoScience team who readily agreed to participate in the science fair and put up this wonderful Story Box.

Students enthusiastically participated in a ‘Science Quiz’, promptly answering questions about basic concepts & the latest happenings in the world of science. Further, ‘Pictionary’ drew everyone into a captivating guessing game as students skillfully illustrated science words!

We end with some lovely feedback from the visitors. #TIFRHScienceFair2024
