Teacher Orientation Programme for Upskilling in Physics (TOP-UP)

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad and the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), University of Hyderabad (UoH) in association with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai organized a teacher orientation programme for upskilling in Physics from February 19 – 23, 2024 at the UoH campus.

The event was inaugurated on February 19, 2024 at MMTTC. About 25 participants from different colleges of Telangana along with a few teachers from different states attended the event. The guest of honor, M. Krishnamurthy, Centre Director – TIFR Hyderabad addressed the teachers about the legacy of Homi J. Bhabha and the role of TIFR in scientific training and research excellence. The chief guest, B. J. Rao, Vice Chancellor, UoH emphasized the importance of equipping teachers with newer learning techniques to enlighten the already smart students of this era. Shirish Pathare from HBCSE gave a brief overview of the programme.

The Teacher Orientation Programme for Upskilling in Physics includes modules on innovative schemes to measuring fundamental constants, exploring black boxes to smartphone physics along with interactive lectures on advanced topics such as biophysics, molecular beams and laser spectroscopy. Over the course of five days, the participants of the workshop will be focusing on experiential learning techniques in physics, along with visiting research laboratories at the UoH and TIFR Hyderabad.

“The conceptualization of similar training programmes in other streams of science including Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics are underway”, says the organising team.
