Research

The group is presently investigating the following research themes

a) Extreme field science: Exploring light-matter interaction with Petawatt laser pulses of intensities up to 10^22 W/cm^2 in broad range of plasma density spanning from solid density to near-critical-density and under dense plasma.
b) Laser-driven accelerators: Controlling generation and transport of fast Electrons for development of compact bright secondary sources of MeV ions, x-rays and neutron beam. Intense laser-driven multi-MeV ion beam and understanding of their spatial and spectral features.
c) Ultrafast plasma dynamics: Ultrafast plasma dynamics, transient evolution of electric and magnetic fields in plasma and extreme non-linear optics.
d) Laboratory Astrophysics: Understanding of astrophysical phenomenon in a scaled down system present in high-power laser driven plasmas.
